4th gen swap

ok i was reading around just didnt find anything that answered my question
i know the rear basically the driveshaft rearend all those springs struts and control arms all that stuff were direct bolt ons unless u have a saginaw or th200 tranny i have an 82 auto berlinetta v8 but i wanted to put in a better tranny anyway so i wanted to know if any 4th gens had a th400 or better and posi rear end and if any of those have the aluminum driveshaft

Axle/Gears: '01 3.42 10 bolt
4th gens didn't come with a th400. they either had a 4l60e or a t56 6 speed. if you can find a z28 ir a transam, those typically had posi rears and the aluminum driveshaft with disc brakes.

i got an auto and i want to switch to manual will the manual fit the 305 i have after i put a fly wheel and clutch on

yes. if your asking if the t56 or manual transmission will bolt to your engine. im sure youll have to change the fly wheel ofcourse. but im pretty sure all SBC V8's have the same bolt patterns for the transmission

You need to know if you have a 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal. When they made the change in seals the crank flange (the part where the flywheel bolts to) changed as well. But the bell housing bolt patterns stayed the same.

well if i got a new flywheel for the old flange type, which i probably have since i have an 82 would the rest just bolt up?

yeah i think so. just get everything from the donor car...and use its flywheel. you can find many complete T5 trannys with all the swap parts to convert an auto to a manual for well under 1000 bucks
