lock up switch installation

i had brought my car to get a shift kit, and 3000 stall to get installed in my 700r4. he said he wired a lock up inside the transmission i just need to set up the switch? now he gave me a connector, which was broke, that goes on the side of the transmission and said just go pick up a new one and run the wire to the on/off switch and other to ground. Then ground the switch, and also stick one wire in the fuse box (three wires coming from the switch)

is this all that needs to be done to get my lock-up working on my transmission?

The lock-up solenoid is switched on by grounding it. Did he tell you which wire goes where, or do you need a wiring diagram? The connector should be a 4-pin weatherpack (2X2) that plugs in the trans.

so its called a solenoid. I did a search and this is what i came up with:

- Purple(12v - Goes Off When Brake Is Pressed)
- Tan/Black(Ground From ECM To Tell TCC To Lock Up)
- Green(To Tell PCM When Transmission Is In 4th Gear)

I read about ALDL but my harness is all hacked up due to previous owner and me installing 4th gen dash. Can i bypass this since i have on/off switch? which wire would i need to connect the on/off switch to on the solenoid? Green? or Purple?

all inside the transmission is wired, im just talking about the 2x2(4) prong that clips on the outside of the transmission.

a, b, c, d

there are only 3 wires that actually come from the prong im told, A is for 12v power, D is for ground, and i am not sure of the other one, is the wire the i would wire to the On/Off switch?

Correct. Run a 12V key on to A, and run a ground switch to D. Get a on/off switch, run one side to ground and the other to D on your connector. When it is turned on it will be grounded and turn on the TTC solenoid. B is the 4th gear switch, and not really needed unless you want to get fancy.

A is it 12v constant or ignition?

then i use D(ground) to connect to the switch, and run the last 2 wires on the switch to ground and fuse box (has 3 wires im assuming fuse box is for IGN).

A is 12V+ ignition (key on), not constant. Run a wire from D to your on/off switch. Run the other wire of your switch to ground. When you turn the switch on D is grounded and the TCC locks up. No other wires are needed, and nothing from the switch goes to the fuse box.

ok, and B is not needed, sweet.

So i can just leave the 3rd wire from the On/Off switch alone then, what would happen if i had it plugged it, just means the switch would only work when IGN is on right?

The switch just grounds out the TCC solenoid, making it work. It is an On/Off switch. When you turn it ON, the wire that runs to ground connects to the wire run to terminal D and activates the TCC solenoid. Period. It does not require power to the switch to do this. I don't know what kind of switch you have, but you need one that when you turn it on the two wires coming from it are connected. Period. If you have a continuity tester, figure out which two wires of your switch are connected when you turn it on, and use them. If not, buy a two wire On/Off switch.

Re: lock up switch installation

The connector has the letters cast in it. Look at the connector and find A and D and hook those two wires up.
