P-N-R super slow when temps cold

Year round my park to neutral and from neutral to drive are slow but in the winter I have upwards of 6 seconds for the tranny to shift out of one gear into the next. Summer timeframe is only about 3 seconds.
All other shifts are fine regardless of tranny or ambient temperature.

Is my pump taking a dump?
Valve body dirty?

Low and or wrong fluid and/or dirty filter. 3 seconds to go into gear is a long time.

A pump leak (Internal) can do it too.

Well then maybe I'm looking at a pump leak. Filter's new and level is actually a little over full. Fluid Dexron-Mercon III.

nods... pump vanes are a wear item.

You're losing pressure somewhere. Loose valve body bolts could do this too, or a broken accumulator spring.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the tranny holds out until I can get the GTA put back together.

There is a test port on the left side where you can test it.

Test port? I'll do a search on that unless you want to tell me how and what I need to test.

The test port he is referring to is a 7/16 head hex plug on drivers side of trans right above the shift arm. rem ove the plug and install a trans pressure gauge and ck pressures in park and in gear. If I remember right somewhere around 65-80 psi in park

Cool. Thanks.
Replacing the pump means pulling the tranny doesn't it. Maybe I should just go through the whole thing while i'm at it.
