how long does a torque converter take to lock?
After the torque converter override switch is turned on, how long should it take for me to notice an RPM drop? If I shouldn't notice an RPM drop, what should I notice instead? I tried the switch thing and it didn't seem to change a thing. BTW, I don't have an ECM in my car, so I know it wasn't already locked, unless the transmission did it manually some how? I have been told numerous times that I need to get it locking again as soon as possible (been running it for a little over a year- 14-15k miles- without it locking) is it possible that something is damaged from that kind of mileage without it locking and now it won't lock?

It should happen pretty much immediately. Have you checked the wiring to the transmission?

Are you using the switch on the ALDL? If your ECM was just unplugged and the wiring was left unmolested, then the switch should work fine. If the harness was needlessly cut and chopped, then the switch might not work.

I tried it on the ALDL first, but since I am going to setup a relay to do the trick for me automatically, I traced the wire and cut it at the ECM plug. I know it's the right wire going to the transmission, because I can use a ohm meter and test from where it was cut to the ALDL, so I know the other side of the cut is going to the transmission.
