700r4 problems

I have a '86 Iroc with a 305 and 700r4. About 2 years ago the stock 700r4 went out on my brother, he replaced it with a used 700r4 out of a caprice (uknown year). evedently everything was similar, since everything bolted up correctly (except the speedo isn even close). He drove maybe 2 weeks before it overheated and he parked it. I get it running last week and take it out, the transmissions was slipping, but it had all the gears. After I got off of work, it now ony has 1 and 2. I noticed the tranny fluid was extremely low, so i added some (how much does the tranny hold ??) tranny fluid and some transmission leak stopper. I take it out on the highway and it doesnt seem to slip much in 1,2 anymore, but D and OD are completly out of it.

is there anything that is causing it, or is my tranny smoked??

Re: 700r4 problems

The tranny holds 11 quarts.Maybe smoked the forward cluthes. If the cable is not adjusted right won't have enough line pressure. If it shifts late TROTTLE
VALVE might be suck.

Re: 700r4 problems

The 3-4 clutches are gone, (common). The rebuild kit that I carry (it is very complete) has all the clutches, steels and everything else that is needed to do this correctly. Let me know if I can be of help? Dana
