87 GTA axle
Have a 9 bolt 7 3/4" ring gear. I need a rear axle and want to know if there is a difference between the drum and disc brake axles. Or did all of these rear ends come with just disc brakes?

They came with both disk and drums.
I am 99% sure the axles are the same. Backing plates from the 10 bolts for disks will also fit the 9 bolts.

9-bolts with drums are quite rare in the US. You probably won't run across any of those.
Backing plates are different on the 9-bolt vs the 10-bolt. The hole in the center is a different size and the bolt pattern on the flange is different.
9-bolt axles also are different on the 2 sides; one side is longer than the other.
