'82 T/A tranny
'82 T/A tranny
hey...I recently found a 1982 trans am, three speed auto with a 305, pretty much all original, good condition...reverse is gone on it though...I dont know too much about their trannys, did they have 200-4r's then or were they turbo 350's? if they didn't have turbo 350s then would one bolt up fine? thanks...

200r4 is a 4-speed auto, only thirdgen to get it was the turbo T/A. I think its the 200c, also used in some of the early 80's G-bodys. I don't think GM used the 350 in thirdgens at all.

Re: '82 T/A tranny
IF that is the original tranny for the car, you are looking at a TH200C.
A short tail (6") TH350 should pop right in place of the th200. Both trannys have the exact same location on the tranny mount (22.250" from front) but the th350 will measure out overall 27 5/8" and the th200 is 28 1/4
I cant remember if both output shafts are the same size/spline or not. But if they are, then it shouldnt be a problem re-using the original driveshaft

Re: '82 T/A tranny
It's a 200c. I killed mine last summer and had it rebuilt. What a waste of cash, but my dad made me get it fixed. We had the tranny out of the car and when i was gone for a week he took it to Russ Moore.
$500 i could have spent towards a tranny swap gone. I wasnt happy.
If you buy it, you will definently be swapping in something else. I wish I would have known the th350's almost bolt in, i kick myself everytime I think about it.

Re: '82 T/A tranny
yes, but thats going to require some actual effort to do lol
The 700r4 mount is 3/4" farther back and is 1 3/4" longer overall, which will most likely require driveshaft modification/replacement
