Is the TV cable the only thing that makes the trans shift? I have adjusted the cable 2 or 3 times and the trans still shifts to quick. Top RPMS under wot is 3500rpm. No down shift when going 55mph at 1900 rpms the car only kicks down enough to pull 3000rpm and just stays there and pulls hard.Trans is new and built for my 383. If I shift it by hand with the shift car revs right up and shifts hard. How do you tell if the cable is right? Do they go bad? I pushed the button on the side and pulled the cable back as far as it goes then released the button and pushed the gas hard to the floor.I hear it clicking but when I drive the car there is no change. What to do next??????????

They make different cables for different types of induction. If your running a carb you need a carb/TBI cable, if your running TPI you need a TPI cable...

If you are running an aftermarket carb you need the special braket to correct the geometry.

 

Stock throttle body set 5.7 TPI with the square push in button on the back of the bracket holding throttle cable and cruse control cable.

 

The cable can go bad, as it can be stretched to where it's not doing what it should. Also it's possible the attachment inside the transmission came off, or wasn't put back on correctly.

 

the proper way to adjust it is to push the button in and turn the throttle to WOT and release button.
