ok,

so my car starts up and runs fine, but nothing happens when i put it in gear, the car doesnt even bog or anything.. no load is being put on the engine..

i had the back end of my car on jack stands to see if i could get the tires to turn at all.. here is the weird part.. every once in a while, when i start my car, there is this weird humming noise that comes from the transmission, but when it makes that noise, my back tires will turn when putting it in gear, but the bad thing about it is, my car shakes, and it scares me, so i shut the car off.

my brother thinks that it could be a bad pump or something, causing it to not go into gear, which is possible i guess.. but would a bad pump cause the transmission to work sometimes and not others, and to vibrate terribly?

i was thinking about buying an overhaul kit, a new pump, and a shift kit possibly.. what do you all think? could i get away with buying new seals for the pump, or would it be better off buying a new pump,

lemme ask you this... does the whole pump thing sound like it could be the problem?

also whenever you shut the car off.. you hear a weird like whizz noise from the trans.. dunno if thats the pump.. i dunno.. whatcha all think?

To determine if its the pump remove one trans line at radiator . Start car briefly does it spray fluid? If so the pumps working if not thats your problem , But the whizing sound when you turn the car off sounds like a hard parts failure.

yepp.. thats the first thing we thought about.. torque converter is bolted on fine, and is turning the pump fine.

...well, if the converter is bolted up, it's full of fluid, and the shift linkage is moving into gear and the output shaft still isn't turning...it's time to go through the trans.
