Alto Reverse Input Drum Saver

Hey guys, I have a question about part of the kit I got from ProBuilt, specifically the Alto Reverse input drum saver.

the directions included with the kit are below. The part I am confused about are where it states "position the wave spring so that the top of a wave is directly over the bleed hole"

In the illustrations also below, I tried it both ways, and #2 did not leak when pressure tested, but I think that #1 is the correct way to install this wave spring.

If anyone has installed this(I am POSITIVE someone has), how did you do it?
