Lost 3-4 gears...Probuilt, question please
I got done rebuilding my 700R4 about 1000 miles ago. I waited until I figured I had things broke in(clutches, whatnot). Going about 40... with 4.11 gears that means I should be in O.D., I floored it and when I hit about 5000rpm, I now only have 1st and 2nd gear.
I added the Probuilt transgo street/strip shift kit. Went with the automatic version. After I got everything together, I noticed the spring kit that is under that plastic tray in the box.
My quesion is this. Is the reason things let go at 5000 because of those springs?
I dropped the pan and oil is very burned, I am going to be pulling the tranny again this weekend. Hopefully second time is a charm. Will the clutch springs and some heavy duty clutches/steels help me out so I can run to the 6000 rpm range?

Re: Lost 3-4 gears...Probuilt, question please
While it is apart, add the TransGo Hi-rpm steel rings and matching priming spring to the front pump. This should be added to any motor going over 5,500 rpm. This keeps up the oil volume at high rpm's. The additional springs that came with the kit will help out all the way around. I would make sure that you have at least 7 or 8 clutches in the 3-4 clutch pack. If need some help here, call me. What year are you working on?

It's a 1988 700R4. I know there is the option of going to a 13 vane pump. I found that on that Raptor 700R4 site.
I was looking on the ProBuilt site, but I didn't find anything about the pump springs/rings, actually on either of the sites.
I'll probably know more as soon as I pull everything apart and find out just what is worn or broken. There is one thing that worried me. When I was done, I had a lip seal left over that would go on one of the pistons. I'm 99% sure I got them all on and correctly, but there's always that possibility I left something out.
Thank you for your help. I was just wondering if you knew of a reason 3-4 would let go around 5000 rpm. Obviously something lost pressure and the clutches started slipping, whether it was the pump pressure or the piston was not applying enough pressure. I.E. missing lip seal.
