Swapping clutch gears on a t5
Just yesterday I got done swapping clutch gears on my nwc t5. The other input shaft came from a nwc t5. From the symptoms I had I thought the shaft might be bent. After I did the swap I decided not to leave my driveway, because something didn't sound right at all. Any idea why I have this problem. My only guess is the original is a heavy duty gear as opposed to stock. I reused the original shim, I had parts lying around, because I just bought a t5 for the case. The gearset also had a different ratio on fifth.

I reused the original shim
I don't know of any kind of "heavy duty" gear, that's any different from "stock"; except for G-Force or the like. In which case the gear teeth would be COMPLETELY different and it wouldn't even be possible to assemble it. So whatever is going on, that's not the cause.
It's EXTREMELY rare for any of the hard parts in a T-5 to "bend". They're REALLY REALLY hard, so they tend to shatter. Whatever it was you thought you were accomplishing by changing that gear, probably didn't happen. What symptoms made you think it was "bent"? "Bent" in what way?
What kind of noise?

Re: Swapping clutch gears on a t5
The only reason I thought it was bent was because when I pulled the trans from my wrecked iroc the car fell, and crushed the ears off the trans. I then got a used trans and swapped everything into that case, reusing the same shim from the old trans. I think that's where my problem lies. I'm going to order a depth mircometer from work, I just have to find shims.
The trans shifted good, I even did a couple burnouts with it the way it was. I'm guessing if it was that bad it would've grenaded.
Then I swapped input shafts, and used the shim that was used with that gear.
Now my symptoms, when it would warm up if I pushed the clutch and just touched first gear it would make a noise, not a grinding but close. It wasn't that loud, and it wasn't like a synchro grind. This noise would continue while in first until I let up the clutch a little.
What I felt last night driving down my driveway was bad, I knew right away something was terribly wrong. Now I have to take it back out, actually i'm going to do that on the lawn right now. What fun

Re: Swapping clutch gears on a t5
When I took the trans apart I found out that fifth driven? gear was chipped pretty bad. I also found a broken key for the clutch gear slider. I had parts from another t5, so I used them.
I was wondering why the fifth gear originally in the trans had longer teeth then the one I replaced it with. It was the same ratio. If I had a digital camera I would've taken pics.
