poly trans mount question?
nice simple question, i think...
with the polyurethane trans mounts. they all come with an extra plate that goes between the mount and the trans. what is it for? is it a shim? or a required structural piece, and i cant see this as being the case.
anyone?
thanks

Re: poly trans mount question?
ES calls it a preload plate and instructions say it MUST be installed. After reading a bunch of posts here, I didn't use mine in the beginnning. Then one day I decided to put it in. Car vibrated more than usual and I took it back out. It doesn't seem to do anything but change your driveshaft angle a bit.

Re: poly trans mount question?
I put an Energy Suspension poly bushing in my 87 Formula. I had the T5 and got the weird round one with the stud sticking out of the middle. It didn't come with a plate. Just installing it straight in it was a great piece.
I don't think I'd use the plate...

Re: poly trans mount question?
I used the plate on mine and I have no adverse effects, it just goes in there doesn't hurt or help it seems.

Re: poly trans mount question?
well, i left mine out. Im doing my best to use my UMI 700r4 crossmember with my new TKO600 trans. everything is fine, just had to make a couple spacers to drop the crossmember a bit, and removing that trans mount spacers helps me a lot, so i guess i will find out if it will work out. once its on the road ill have to see if i get any vibrations.

Re: poly trans mount question?
If you don't use it then the mount is shorter than stock, so your tranny will be down at a big of an angle - i'm guessing.
And yea, preload, you squish the bushing a bit which helps keep the bolt in place, and keeps it from going "clunk" on occasion. Mine is in there.

? I didn't say "IMine" I said "Mine"...
I was referring to the plate, some members said they left it out. Just for arguements sake I was saying mine is there.

Re: poly trans mount question?
Mine didn't come with a plate. Energy Suspension brand, just the bushing and two packets of grease. *shrug*
