Drivetrain Vibration

Please help! I have an issue where my car vibrates when I am in drive but stopped at a light/stop sign. If I shift the car into neutral the vibration stops. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

Re: Drivetrain Vibration

Can you tell where the vibration is comming from? Does it change with vehicle speed? It could be alot of things right now, the first thing I would look at is the tires. Make sure they have the same tread pattern or are very close. Second make sure they are balanced correctly. Is there any noise along with the vibration?. If there is a noise with the vibration then I would check the suspension and drivetrain. The driveshaft U-joints could be worn out or the driveshaft itself is not balanced. Those will give you a bad vibration. Check your ball joints and Tie rods to make sure they are not worn out.

Thanks. I don't notice any issues when I am driving. It only occurs when I am stopped at a stop sign or red light and the trans is in drive. The dash has begun to rattle so to make it stop I shift the car into neutral until the light turns green again then I shift it back into drive. This is in no way a long term solution.

In order to change the mounts do I need to use a cherry picker to support the weight of the motor or is there some other method like jacking it from underneath to hold the weight?
