Re: 700R4 TCC lock up

Well, it's been while since I last posted. I talked to my buddy and I'll be able to swap out the harness. I also got new 4th gear and 4-3 press. switches
for the 86 F-body 700r4. The switches were only $15.00 all together.
I'm planning on swapping out transmissions Oct.4th and mabye 5th if needed. Also, just in case anybody needed the info, TCC solenoids are the same for 85-up 700r4's. I'm not sure if the 83-84 700's are the same(I didn't ask about those years). Mikz86TA, I've been following your 700R4 Blues
thread, it's been almost a week since I've logged in to TGO. I hope your
rebuild is going well, and thanks for all the info you provided. I should be
able to do this wiring and tranny swap without any major issues, but If I have any, I'll PM or e-mail you. Apeiron, thank for the diagram once again.
I'll post here again once I've got the other tranny in. Well it's 3:00 PM, and
time for me to go to work, I'll talk to you guys later.

Re: 700R4 TCC lock up

Well, I started my tranny swap yesterday. I pulled the pans off of both
700's and the 91' tranny was clean with no metal in it, so far off to a
good start. I also pulled the pan off my original 86' 700 for the harness
and well.....um.....let's just say there was more metal in the pan than
in the case. Mikz86TA, I compared my original v.b. to the v.b. in the
91' tranny, and the 91' 700 doesn't have a 4-3 pulse switch provision
in the valve body. It does have the 4th gear switch though. That's the
only issue I've ran into. I was able to at least swap in my original governor.
I've got a couple of options available concerning the lock-up issue.
First, I could swap out valve bodies and problem solved, but there was
a "WHOLE LOT" of metal and garbage in my original tranny. I'd have to get
all of that trash out of the 86 v.b., and my time table wont allow that
right now. Another option is that I could convert the 91' 700 to non ECM
lock-up, i.e. Painless Wiring or fabricate something myself. I'd rather go
with my second option and take my tranny out of the ECM loop all together.
That will be one less hurdle to jump over if or when I finally decide to go competely without computer control. Mikz86TA, I know that you devised
a DIY non ECM lock-up solution. Your wisdom and guidance and any member
who has suggestions is greatfully appreciated. My third option is to just
put the tranny in the car, make sure it shifts like it's supposed to, and ride
w/o lock-up for right now. If the tranny is good to go, then I'll fix the lock-up
issue when I have time, I'm already used to not having lock-up anyway.

Re: 700R4 TCC lock up

To my knowledge, you can only swap 87-up VB into your 91. Reason has something to do wth the added Aux VB on the 87-up models. You may want to confirm that with someone that has more experience. In my 91, I have a 87 or 88 VB. It has an additional port/valve/sleeve whatever you want to call it. That port is for the TCC Lockup on NON-ECM vehicles. I noticed it when doing the Superior HP kit. My ATSG and the Sup. instructions show both VBs. Since my 91 trans was setup for my car which has no ECM, I assume the tranny shop that did the last build put it in there for that reason. But word is anything older than a late 87 VB without the Aux VB will not properly work. On the Lockup wiring, I had that link B4 to a rough wiring diagram. Thats what I am going to do. In my current rebuild, when I get to that point, I will take pics of it and see how well it works. So, Ill fill ya in when I get to that point. Probably next week B4 I get there tho.
