4.10 vs 3.73

Looking for a new rear end and was wondering if i should go with the 4.10 gears or the 3.73. i will be dragging and driving on the street. I want good track times but yet good street mileage. What are the advantages of both and what rpms would you be running at 60 mph with the 4.10

Re: 4.10 vs 3.73

I would prefer 3.73 man.. you dont tach out as high and you have more chances to chew up your engine with 4.10.. 3.73 is like dead center.. has the power to take off quicker and you have the speed to go along with it. remember.. more RPMs you have to run at certain speed.. the more chances to hit your redline and chew things up in a nasty way and costs more money.

Go for the 3.73's I put them in mine because I was thinking the same thing as you. I didn't want to lose top end though....so the 3.73's were/are the better choice if you ask me.

Re: 4.10 vs 3.73

the simplified formula: rpm = (mph x final gear ratio x 336*) / tire diameter
if you have overdrive multiply that by the final drive ratio.
for the best E.T.'s you would like to cross the finish line about 200 rpm over redline.
figure out how much your car weighs, and how much power you are making. then use this simple chart, and gear accordingly.

or try this one for a street car http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm

3.73 for an auto.....4.10 for a manual

I went with 3.73 that way im at the end of 3rd gear be the time I reach the 1/4 mile.
