3rd gen 4.10 posi to 4th gen 3.23 posi rearend
Right now i have a 4.10 posi rearend with drum brakes in my 82 z28. would it be a good idea to trade for a 93-97 style with disc brakes, 3.23 posi.? It will come complete caliper to caliper.(and it will be a straight trade) i was told i can easily swap a 4.11 gears into the 4th gen rear for little cost. and it would be well worth it. Im still learning and could use some help...

backspacing will be different. if you want it just to put your 4.11's in it i wouldn't think its worth the hassle, and personally wouldn't follow through with the swap. but, if you're going to keep it as is, then yes. do you have a stock posi now? if so the torsen type in the early fourth gens, along with those disc brakes would do you some good. only drawback is that you'd lose gearing; don't know what you're running to know if that'd even make a difference with your cars performance.
def don't buy it just to throw your gears into, as to the fact that alone would probably end up costing more than the purchase of the rearend.

My car has a th-350 tranny w/shift kit, a decent 350 in it that has a cam, headers, 750 edelbrock carb, performer intake. i bought this car as is for $650 and this is the what the power of the car consists of. As of now i wouldnt mind the higher gears, but later down the road when i start building the car more for the strip i would like to change the gears back. Would it still be a good idea for the swap if i changed the gears later? or would it be cheaper to just keep my rearend and change it to disc brakes. i have two sets of 15 inch wheels (cragars and american racing) and i dont think they will fit b/c of the backspacing. i really dont have the money for another set of rims.
it might be a good idea to keep it and change the tranny to a 700r4 so i have overdrive so i have some top end. b/c i still like to drive my car around and be reliable for short trips on the highway but i cant with the low gears. what would you do?
