Installed a transgo shift kit and I have one extra part...
I recently finished installing a transgo shift kit into my 700r4, and as embarassing as it is to say it… I have one extra part which I found when I emptied the drain pan. The transmission is still out of the car and emptied of fluid so returning this particular part to its home home shouldn’t be a terrible hassle. Finding out where it came from, however, is where I am stuck. The piece is a steel rod with chamfered ends 1.75” long with a diameter of 5/16”. Does anyone out there have a manual or parts schematic for a 700r4 from which they could find out where my mystery part came from? Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated so I can get my trans back together and not have issues with it. Thanks .

Here is a picture of the part relative to the size of a quarter…

appears to be a roll pin that holds the valves into the valve body. possibly for the 1-2 shift valve train. i believe the later ones use 2 roll pins to hold the valve assembly in place and i think you modify one of the channels in that area so removal of the valve would help.

I Concur. Its a roll pin. Some come out with the VBody on the car and some only with it off. If you had removed a few valves to do the kit on the car and its never been apart B4, then it should be easy to find. Most roll pin locations are towards the end of the VBody bores, slightly offset (some are centered) and will be a small hole. Find the hole without one and put it back. Some bores with the 'sleeves' require the sleeve to be aligned correctly for the roll pin toi go back in place.

I'll pull the pan this evening to see if there are any unfilled holes where it would go. The rod is solid though, and all of the roll pins I removed were like a typical roll pin, hollow. With that said, do you still think it is a roll pin? Thanks for the replies.

SOLVED!! Alright I visited a transmission shop to see if they could answer my question. They told me that it was a center shaft that belonged in the 3-4 accumulator. Apparently there are two of them, one in the accumulator itself, and one that gets put up into the transmission itself above the accumulator. I guess overnight my mystery part slid out of the case and fell into my drain pan. Glad that got figured out!

truth be told i wasn't even looking at the quarter....lol.
besides, there is one roll pin in the valve body that is bigger in diameter than that rod, just not near as long.
also, if he installed the shift kit per instructions, i don't think he needs the pin. the instructions have you block off the feed hole to the 3/4 accumulator and turn the piston and spring opposite with the spring in first then the piston.

You're right, that was a pretty crummy picture, but I guess it got the job done. As far as the accumulator goes, I don't believe that anything is blocked off which feeds it. Also my instructions didn't call for switching the order of the spring and piston, maybe I have a different kit or a newer version. The transmission shop said that that pin was necessary, and when I took it apart I can see why because it aligns that 3-4 accumulator piston in the bore. I'm by no means a transmission guru, so I am happy that I was able to complete the task and I'm proud to say...the shift kit works flawlessly! Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to go run it through the gears a few times!
