Viper T56 VSS help

Viper T56 VSS help
I have a Viper T56 and I need to know which wire is which on the VSS harness. There are three wires. Any ideas where to get a pigtail for this sensor and wire diagram? Local Dodge dealer doesn't have a clue. I will be running the output to a vss ratio adapter made by Abbott. then to a Cable-X converter to run a mech. speedometer. Any help you can offer would be great!

Re: Viper T56 VSS help
Why did you buy a ratio convert and the Cable X box? The Cable X box will do the ratio conversion thing for you so you don't need that other piece.
Not sure about the wiring. My T56 that came out of a 94 camaro only had a 2 wire VSS plug.

Are you sure the Cable X can change the speed of the speedometer cable? I thought it just takes a vss signal and drives the cable accordingly. I plan on using the ERA to slow the signal because I'm using a speedometer that registers kilometers. So when its all done, I should have a 200 mph speedometer in my 64 Lemans.

Yes. The Cable X box has dip switch that you use to control the speed of the speedometer cable. You have to do a caculation based on tire size, axel gear, and reluctor ring in the tranny and then use a table in the book to look up the proper dip switch setting. It has a huge selection of settings. You may run into problems since you are using a kph speedometer but probably not.

Cool! I called Abbott and they can even build it with a 5 volt lead to power the VSS. You just saved me about 200 bucks by not having to buy the ERA! Thanks!

Re: Viper T56 VSS help
i'm wondering if it would still work if i gave it a 12 volt input? as in, does the VSS just pulse whatever voltage is input into it, or would it damage the VSS? i'm thinking maybe the dodge diagram calls for a 5V input because that's what the factory speedo is looking for...at least, it would be awesome to me as i'm using a Autometer speedo, as i don't know how i'd get a 5V input into it...

Re: Viper T56 VSS help
I wouldn't try 12v into the VSS. It would eventually overheat and fail. The speedometer isn't looking for a specific voltage, but rather a number of pulses per mile. I don't know the voltage of the pulses. Here is a site that sells a 12 volt to 5 volt DC converter. It's way cheaper than a new VSS.

Re: Viper T56 VSS help
I've never been able to find a pigtail for the VSS. I just made my own. Here are the other pigtails I am using: (GM part numbers)
12085485 CONNECTOR $12.85 (reverse light switch)
12101857 CONNECTOR $13.24 (reverse lockout solenoid)
Try GMpartsdirect.com for these prices, but shipping was another $13.79.
I just completely removed the skip shift solenoid and plugged the hole.

If you need a 5v converter, let me know... after I talked to Abbott, I tried to cancel my order with Powerstream, but I think they still shipped it anyway. I'll let you know if it shows up.
