Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
Slips and/or doesn't work in reverse, fluid is dirty pink and smells like metal.
no leaks though.
From what I found on searches there is no real reason to change the fluid and cross my fingers.
Anyone have recommendation on where to get an affordable 700r4?
Anyone heard of Jackson Performance Transmissions out of North Carolina?
My car is an 88 5.7 IROC.
TIA

Re: Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
is it a dirty pink/dirty red/ or dirty brown? slipn it'll usually go brown. the pink kinda throws a flag that may have antifreeze leakin into trans. Usualy it goes creamy pink. jus something to keep in mind. they sometimes go a lil pink too if they are airated (sp?) also like if it was low on fluid or had an internal leak

Re: Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
Thanks for the reply,
It is dirty dark pink. I may take a pic tonight and post it up.
Radiator is new so I am sure it isn't mixing. I just got the car this weeked and it has some driveability problems other than this but the little to no reverse is the most worrisome to me right now.
Do you think changing the fluid would help?

Changing the fluid is the cheapest way to start...but a trans rebuild or replacement is in your near future.

Re: Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
Never heard of them, but any good speed shop can build a trans. Part selection is a big part of what kind of abuse it can live through. Of course it takes someone good with transmissions to get it to work right too!!

Re: Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
Ok well, they give a one year warranty and this is a part list they advertise.
Transtex Master Kit with Borg-Warner Clutches
New Kevlar band
New bushings
New Aluminum Corvette Servo
500 Boost Valve
New teflon sealing rings
New Seal Power filter
Stage One Transgo Shift Kit
their feedback is realy good on evilbay, I went ahead and purchased one for $700 shipped. I am not sure if that is to my door or to a freight place yet.
Once I have it in the car and have a couple weeks on it I will post some feedback in the Aftermarket vendor board.

Re: Trans lightly toasted with jelly.
Well, if it is only $700, and those are the parts they use, it should live behind your 350. A "proper" performance trans would have replaced the sun gear at minimum, along with some other items. The shop that built mine and I go way back, So I know I got parts at 10% over cost...yet my trans was in the $16-1800 range (their labor rate is rather inexpensive for a place that knows what they are doing as well). Don't get me wrong, the trans you are getting doesn't sound bad. It just doesn't fix some of the common problems that the 700R4 has.
