Hi. I recentley repaired my tranny; New 2-4 band, reverse input drum and clutch plates ++
All forwards gears work just fine but reverse gear is gone? Could this be caused by the wrong check-ball stack-up or is that more like believing in santaclaus The reverse input drum is now a pre 87 mod and the tranny is 88+

Thank you for your time

I have snooked around on this great forum and I found this reply concerning the input reverse drum:

look here they are all interchangable as long as you use the hardware that comes with each assembly.the piston type and clutch thickness as well as the cushion plate have changed over the years so just order a loaded drum any year.the diameter of hole that feeds the drum is the only difference in oil routing that changed.i interchange all the time,no problem.need a drum loaded ?contact us 65.00.

My old drum had no "oil-hole" in the front of the drum. It also had like a flat plate in the buttom, which my newly installed drum doesnt have. Im so irritated over myself for not getting the exact same drum, but still I hope that a different checkball setup would help me get my reverse back.

btw I didnt buy a stacked up drum. Used new parts from repair-kit, replaced the plates as in old drum..

I found this post. The important part is no engine braking during decel.

Before you pull the transmission, take the valvebody out and make sure your gaskets are not covering any holes, there are two different year gaskets
