shifting to P when engine died.
Im just thinking of for a time ago (maybe 5 months), my car had some problems. sometimes it could just die when I was cruising in like 12 to 15 mph..
one time the engine died and the SES light came on... the car was rolling in like ~10 mph and the first reaction was to move it out of D (gear) I pulled it to P (park) and the car maked and ticking sound. and stop really fast.. not even sure if it went like 10 mph maybe little lower hard to say...
I started the car and SES light was gone and no error codes, the tranny shift like it should and there is no strange sounds or anything, changed the oil och filter, it looked and smelled good of the oil...
is there any big danger of doing this one time ?! IF the trany have taken any danger it would run bad and make sounds right ?! dont shift right and so on?
I dont have any troubles with it or so,
just thought about it now and thought I should ask here.. and also its a Th700R4

Don't do that again.
The noise you heard was the parking pawl trying to engage and grinding. If it wears too much, it will pop out of park on hills.

hell NO i will never do that again, really dont know what happened, I just pulled it... I will never do that again...
i parked in many many large hills since that happened, used P everytime and the car stays in position. so then it works like it should then ?! if the car can stand still with P in large hills it ok then ? It will NEVER happen again.
there is nothing else that can take damage ?

Re: shifting to P when engine died.
I found this here on this page :
The parking pawl is designed not to be able to engage while the vehicle is moving. It is held into the trans case with a roll pin that it pivots on.
Putting the vehicle in park while moving normally would not hurt the trans, as the parking pawl will ratchet until the vehicle reaches about 5 MPH and then engage. But based on the sounds you are describing, the parking pawl may have been damaged. Have you verified that park still works? You may want to put the vehicle in park and try to push it, if you can roll it while in park, you know that parking pawl is no longer working.
So the tranny should be fine then.
Beacuase when im in P the car stand still nomather what
thank good im a lucky boy

Excellent!
Don't worry about it, we all make mistakes. I actually did the same thing in my first car when i was 16.

Did you find any issues with this? I did this the other night going 40 when my car died cause of vapor lock, but now my car is shifting high like 3500 rpm and shifting hard. My car shifted great until I did this last night, help?
