Re: 9bolt w/2.77 what to do?
There is no 3.23 gear available for th e9-bolt.
There is however, a 3.27. You'll need a different carrier for it.
AFAIK those gears are not available in the aftermarket. The only way you're going to come up with them is used.
Same for the carrier.
There are very few parts out there for that rear. I'm not surprised that the suppliers "can't help"; if the stuff's not there, the stuff's .... not there.
9bolt.com hasn't existed for quite a number of years now. Without putting words into his mouth, it seemed to me that he got REAL TIRED of people who talked a big game about how they were "going to" upgrade their 9-bolts, and they "wanted" to buy whatever parts, and told everybody all about how "if it was available they'd buy it"; so he went to the trouble of tracking them down, and maybe even bought some stuff to have in stock. Then when time came to show the color of their money, all the talkers walked instead. All they wanted to do was moan about how expensive it was (like you see constantly on this BBS). They all wanted to complain about how they could buy 10-bolt parts for so much less. Evidently he decided that it wasn't worth his trouble, and moved on. Can't say I blame him.
Don't know about "skinny" myself. All I know is, if you've got a 2.77 9-bolt, you're fornicated.

Re: 9bolt w/2.77 what to do?
Changing gears, especially from 2.77's will wake the car up across the powerband. It's one of the most effective things you can do for a daily driver (besides a good stall). I would just hunt craigslist or look at your local boneyard for a complete 4th gen rear. Theyre either 3.23 or 3.42 and will bolt right up with little trouble. The LS1's also have the torsen. You could probably find a 9 bolt too. People practically give them away.
Re: 9bolt w/2.77 what to do?
One of the easiest and most effective upgrades I did to my car was ditching the 2.73's in favor of a rear with 3.23's. Made it feel like the car just got a bigger motor. 2.77's are a terrible ratio in any sports car. The only thing a 2.77 geared 9 bolt is good for is a conversation piece, or using the housing/axles to swap a 3.27/3.45/3.70 carrier and gearset into. If you already had a functioning, 3 series 9 bolt, that's one thing. Otherwise, decorate your garden with that 2.77 rear and go find a 10 bolt with a good, 3 series ratio already in it. Member

Re: 9bolt w/2.77 what to do?
it just seems to me that with the extemely stiff first gear of the 700R4, off-the-line acceleration couldn't be a problem, unless you're running a four-banger missing some spark-plug wires. I have the 3.27 9-bolt with my 700R4, and flooring it in 1st gear is consistently just a ridiculous burnout. I have to be running slicks or drag radials to be able toget any benefit from that gear combo.
