all autos should come with one i think... the cooler the tranny runs the longer it will generally last. I also recomend getting a tranny temp gauge if your like me and beat the hell out of it regularly at the track or on the street even... its cheap insurance to make sure you dont toast your trans...

Yes the radiator is a part of the tranny cooler. If you were to put an external cooler on it would lower the temps around 30 degrees and extend the life of the tranny.

myTreadZz, one of the best investments you can make for your car is a tranny cooler and a deep pan. I use a deep tranny pan that holds an additional 2 quarts. Since I started using deep pans and coolers I have never had any problems with GM trannys. I put over 200K miles on each of my last 4 El Caminos and 150K+ miles on my `88 Iroc and no trans issues.
