Clutch Question

Ive read the tech articles and most of the "T56 clutch" results, but most of them are talking about how amazing Mcloed is.

Im new to manual trannies, and dont quite understand the clutch stuff. From what im seeing, it seems you just pick a clucth thats the right diameter, and has the correct number of splines, and ofcourse works with chevy, and it will work with my 95 T56?

Am i correct?

I cant afford a McLoed, but i dont wanna stick a used one in there either. What do i need to know when selecting a clutch?

Re: Clutch Question

Am i correct?
Unfortunately, no.

That would be true of most, though not all, Chevy V8s. But not your particular setup.

The LT1 T-56 clutch is altogether different from every other clutch I've ever seen in a Chevy. Its release mechanism pulls on the throwout bearing instead of pushing on it; and the throwout is an integral part of the clutch, rather than a separate piece.

So you HAVE TO use a clutch that is specific to the LT1 T-56.

There's LOTS of them besides the McLeod. For instance, I have a Centerforce Dual Friction in mine. Other people use the Spec ones. There's other brands as well.

Re: Clutch Question

Those are both good places; plus Thunder Racing, PAW, etc.; and of course your local speed shop.

For example:

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294924744 plus this one http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CTF%2DDF039020 which I have no clue why it doesn't come up in the first group of links. That CF DF is the one I have, and IIRC I got it from Scummit.
