park lock cable , help!

park lock cable , help!

i am having trouble pushing the button down on my shifter. so i was thinking it might be the park lock cable. has anyone had simliar problem? or does anyone know if i take the cable out, can i lube it up and put it back in?

take the shifter plate off and clean the hinge that the shifter hinges on, clean up the two cables going into the shifter, then spray some white lithium greese on the hinging places and near the calbe sleeves, pull the shifter into 1st and spray a little bit on the cables themselves, and all the spring loaded hinges where the cables mount, and then slide it back and forth, also when you take the button off, spray a little bit down into the shaft, this should cure any problems you could have with it for quite a few years. Good luck.

Give it some time, but if your still experiencing problems, then you many need to look into replacing the cable park lock cable, although even looking at cars that have sat in fields for 10 years or so I've never seen that cable go.
