Simple question

I just completed a WC T5 swap in my Monte Carlo c/w hydraulic clutch setup and had a quick question - does a hydraulic clutch fork require a return spring? There doesn't appear to be any good spot to put a spring (where it won't slide off) on the fork (like a mechanical fork does).

Re: Simple question

No return spring. It's inside the slave cyl.

A mech system doesn't have a return spring either; all that spring on the linkage does, is keep the linkage from falling out of the end of the fork.

Re: Simple question

Thanks for the info - never thought about that on a mechanical system, but ya I guess it needs some tension to hold it all together.

Does the throwout bearing always have the pressure plate touching it (always spinning), or should it release so that it is not always spinning?

Re: Simple question

The bearing touches the clutch lightly and is always spinning in the hydraulic system, just like in a mechanical system.

Re: Simple question

Great - thanks for the info. When I installed the transmission, it was about 1/4" short of reaching the bellhousing (throwout bearing hitting pressure plate I am sure) and I had to use the bolts to pull it in. Just wanted to make sure that was normal
