Why does my T56 make so much noise?

Well i like my t56 a lot better than the auto, but its noisy. Mostly in 1st and 2nd gear. I can hear the shafts clanking around in the trans when its idling in neutral. 1st to 2nd shift is also very rough. All of the other gears make noise too but not nearly as bad.

Now i know that this trans is pretty well F-ed but how long can you limp on a bad trans? I shift gently and im just trying to get an idea of how long i can milk it before i have to replace it. (its my only car)

Any of you guys ever had a similar experience?

Until it breaks altogether.

Of course, the longer you let it go, the more expensive it gets to fix. Whatever is making noise, is sitting there steadily shedding metal into the fluid, which is of course busily destroying whatever isn't otherwise affected. Keep driving it, and you'll have nothing but a big pile of scrap metal.

Yes I have had a similar experience or 2. In fact, I've trashed SO MANY manual transmissions before, I have no idea even how many. I lost count at about 20. So any more, at THE FIRST SIGN of trouble, I fix em. Causes less trouble and costs FAR less in the long run.
