Shifting Problem?
Shifting Problem?
I noticed my auto IROC has a very brief "chirp like" over rev when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I've had the problem since I purchased the car, hasn't gotten better or worse really. The tranny catches fine and shifts through all the gears strong, but just has this momentary "chirp". I also notice that it down shifts hard and quickly from 3rd to 1st when rolling to a stop light. When I bought the car I was told it had a shift kit, but are these normal characteristics?

yea thats the shift kit doin that,my iroc has a B&M shift kit and it shifts strong and chirps the tires when shifting
Re: Shifting Problem?
The "over rev" is not good, it is a 2-3 shift flare. It means that the 2-4 band is coming off "completely" before the 3-4 clutches start applying. When does this happen? at WOT? or at part throttle? Make sure that the TV cable is tight at WOT. Do this and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Shifting Problem?
I don't see how chirping between gears is a transmission issue, you need stickier tires if u want it to stop doing that. The point of shift kits is for quiker and stronger shifts which would decrease torque lossed during shift, thats what's causing the chirping.
Re: Shifting Problem?
Yes, I mean shift flare. I just didn't know the term for it
. The flare happens under normal acceleration. I can suppress A LOT by adjusting the cable, but it is still there. How do I fix the issue?

It's taking too long for the 3rd clutches to engage.
Pull the pan, drop the 3rd gear accumulator, and remove the piston. Take out the spring (the spring is a cushion) and install a stack of washers to take the spring's place. The accumulator piston should be just below the surface of the housing. Put it all back together and pour in a bottle of Lucas addative.
Gauranteed, you'll have a better 3rd gear shift.
