Tranny Making Nasty Noise, What Is It!??!
Hi All!
I Have a 1993 Camaro LT1, Now it goes into gear fine, however from a complete stop, it grinds as i apply gas and release the clutch, it doesn't grind at any other point, its fine shifting into all gears, it's fine through all the other gears, it only grinds when at a complete stop and I release the clutch and apply gas. before a tranny shop tells me all kinds of ill nonscence, I want to know what it is. Is it the clutch? is it the tranny? A simple clutch job is cheap, but a tranny overhaul is going to ruin valentines day for the mrs. ! ! !

Does it gind if you stop and try to take off in 2nd gear?. If no, then it sounds like the tranny. Maybe a bad 1st gear syncro.

Yes! I does grind in every gear, from a complete stop. It grinds louder as I try in higher grears, but as soon as Im fully off the clutch, everything is ok, and shifting after that while the car is moving is fine. What's the verdict?

Sounds like a problem with the clutch. I can't think of what would be grinding in there. I guess pull it apart and take a look.

Sounds to me like the throw out bearing is gone...when you press the pedal, the bearing engages the clutch disk and spins with the engine...if the bearings are gone, it will 'grind' like you say and get better when you let off completely because there isn't a bind on it. So, if you put it in neutral, and press the clutch in, you should hear a grind and it will go away when you let off the clutch all the way right? Throw out the throw out bearing and get another...Also a good time to look at a new pilot bearing on the crank, new flywheel/or resurface yours, and change the clutch and pressure plate...
