Wait to do both trans & engine mounts?

I have a TPI mated to a WC T5. Both the engine mounts and trans mounts are s.h.o.t. There's very little supporting the engine and my trans wobbles a good bit on most roads.

I bought a poly engine/trans mount set from ES. I was planning on doing the trans mount now and doing the engine mounts when I retool the front suspension (read: remove the a-amrs). My quandry is that I've read if you replace the trans and not the engine mounts, that may eff up the driveline or offset how everything sits under the car/hood. Anyone agree with that? I'd like to do the trans NOW (yesterday) and save the engine for later, how bad would things be messed up if I did?

Thanks,
Eric

Re: Wait to do both trans & engine mounts?

I did it that way and didn't have any problems with my 87 Formula.

The poly trans mount sometimes throws off the driveline angle all by itself. Sometimes they come with a spacer plate. Mine didn't, but some people did get them and sometimes they were okay, sometimes they had to be removed.

I wouldn't run it, myself. Just put the poly mount in. You will notice a little more vibration coming through the shifter, but hey, it's a compromise!

If your stuff is really bad, you'd better check your torque arm mounts as well. They may be pretty beat up after floating around in there with trashed engine/trans mounts.

Me either. Even if you have problems, swapping the tranny mount is a half hour job.

Yeah, I've had to do it a few times and the hardest part is jacking up the car and then jacking up the trans a little to relieve the pressure
