they are 3 different transmissions.

well i was told i had a 700r4 on my 87 bird. but i havent looked yet im still working on getting the engine and tranny out, and i forgot to look when i was up there.
baisicly whats teh difference between them
witch are mech and witch are elec,

im new to all of this

you have a 700r4. the 700 has overdrive the lock-up for which is electric. the th350 and 400 do not have OD, and no electric connections.
Stock for stock the th400 is the strongest, and the 700 is the weakest, the 400 takes the most power to turn than the 350 and i dont know where the 700 fits in there.

so i seen an tranny rebuild kit. it was $600 said it would allow me up to 575HP on the R4

the R4 is mech correct?
