T5 - no 5th and reverse

Ok, so I just got done with the T5 swap. I had the trans and everything bolted up in the car, and I ran through the gears without fluid in the trans. It shifted through all the gears smoothly, no problem. Then I put fluid in it, and now it won't go into 5th or reverse It'll go into the 5th/reverse gate, but won't actually to into those gears anymore. Mind you I haven't tried any of this with the engine running; I've still got a few things to do to it before I can start it up. Any ideas?

I would try rolling the driveshaft a little and then try again. You probably will be fine once you run the engine.

Yah I thought that might be the answer. Hopefully that'll do the trick. It just scared me sh!tless having done all of that work and then it wouldn't go into 5th or reverse

I kinda hate to ask this, but when you added fluid, did you remove a bolt from the driver's side or the passenger side to fill it? If you removed it from the driver's side, that's the bolt that holds the 5th/reverse shift fork together inside the trans. I figured I better ask so you can rule that possibility out.

Re: T5 - no 5th and reverse

Hah, no I didn't take that bolt out. I know all about that little sucker, and I stayed far away from it. I just removed the top drain plug and poured fluid in through the shifter hole until it overflowed out the drain plug. I'm thinking the driveshaft just needs wiggled a little, because when I shifted through the gears before, the driveshaft wasn't installed. I'm going to look at it closer this weekend, I'll post what happens.
