Everything I've ever heard about a T-5 leads to a big fat No... Unless of course you don't actually want to use 70% of your new power. And/or shift it like you are carrying eggs on the roof.

Re: changing the 5 speed for turbo 350

im doing the exact same thing!
you could change it to a T56. it be a six speed. and it should hold up to the power for the 383.

Re: changing the 5 speed for turbo 350

autos dont have a clutch. so you dont have to use the clutch pedal or anything attached to it.
im pretty syre you can remove all that stuff. or you can keep it on if you like and pretend your shifting years with a clutch lol.
when i do my TH350 swap. im gunna keep my clutch pedal in and use it as switch of some sort. i just like having a 3rd pedal.

Re: changing the 5 speed for turbo 350

i really honestly can not remeber haha.
i know that there is acrap load of info about the T56 swap all over this website. just check out the search. i would imagine you can still use everything. but im really not to sure.
i would just double check on that. or maybe someone else will post the info you need. but im pretty sure you need a different tranmission mounts. but you can get them from lots of places.

Re: changing the 5 speed for turbo 350

manual is alot more fun to drive i think.
im just going with a TH350 because i found one for $150 i could clean it up and sell it for more then i paid for it. rebuild it or whatever. and use that money for a T56. i believe the Tq rating for the T56 is 450tq. i could be wrong. best of luck on what tranmission you will be doing

Re: changing the 5 speed for turbo 350

yea i dont have 3rd gen get togathers or anything like that where i live. but we do have carshows and show in shines and stuff like that here. lots during the summer. im thinking about putting my car in it once my car is complete. ithink it be kinda fun.

im sure you can find a used T56 at a junkyard for fairly cheap. probably $800 or somthing. but dont count on that tho. i could be way off. i never looked at the yard to find out how much it would be worth.
cant hurt to find out tho.
im acturally going to be getting my TH350 tranny tommorrow.
the guy was selling it for $200 and i got it down to $125. he says it works and it comes ith a Tq coverter and oil cooler as well.

do you know anything about TH350 since you were planning on getting one?
im having a hard time finding some info on it. or maybe im just not typing the right words in the search.
