t5
Ok so I have a 91 firebird with a 305 tbi and a 700r4 tranny. I have always wanted it to be a manual but it was my dads car and he loves the 700r4, so what could I do? Well now its my car and its time for a t5. I have an 88 camaro as a donor car.
How hard is it to swap?
Will this year t5 essentially bolt on (crossmembers, bell housing, flywheel, ect.)?
do I need any change to my rear end or does it just bolt on to the driveshaft?
Any answers will help, I want to learn as much as I can before I take out the 700r4

Re: t5
Rebuild the tranny before you put it in. Start saving to do it again, and again, and again.... you get the idea

Re: t5
You have to cut a hole in the floor where the shifter will go. Then it should swap over if everything is there. Best of luck.

Re: t5
Manuals hold up for hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems.
My T5 has close to 200k miles on it, no issues. My buddies T5 has over a 100k on it, no problem. *shrug*

Re: t5
I haven't even put 4000 miles on my clutch car since I bought it and I've already grenaded two of them, world class no less. I guess they're fine if you don't intend to ever get your foot in it...
What it comes down to is this, even the strongest T-5's made, only came out rated to hold back 300 lb ft of torque. Even the mildest plain jane 350 is putting out better than that. As such, the factory T-5's may as well be disposable.

Re: t5
The T-5 wasn't meant to be abused by too much power. That's why GM never put it behind a 350.
If you put a strong enough engine in your car, you can break anything and then claim that the driveshalf for example or the rear end is "junk".
Power corrupts. (pun intended)
