Should i switch to 3.73's??
Should i switch to 3.73's??
hi im 15 and i have a 1991 gmc suburban with 33 in tires
im rebuilding the motor right now and it should be around 300 hp when im done
im not sure what the rear end ratio is in it now but im sure its stock
before i started building the motor the burban had no power and bad gas mileage (around 10)
my question is would a switch to 3.73's help my around town power and gas mileage?
i wont be doing to much hiway driving but i dont want to be on the hiway running 3500 rpms or something.
So should i switch to 3.73's with my 33 in tires?
thanks for any imput

Hey, don't laugh. I've acutally seen someone do that before.
Check out this gear calculator. It should help.

Eh, this kid might be asking about the wrong vehicle given the website he's on, but I like his sense of humor.
It really depends on what you had from the start. If you had 2.73s, with taller tires it may have lugged the crap out of it and 3.73s may let it work within it's means. Suburbans are very heavy, no matter what you do to them. You will likely never achieve acceptable fuel economy, instead floating around 10-12 mpg for all eternity. They got what, 16 on the hiway from the factory? Unless it had a 454, then it's less than that. So to give you the most accurate answer I am capable of, I don't know.
alright fine
i have a 1991 firebird converted to 4x4 with 33's
