linkage probrem

Well it never happened before, one yesterday wen i got off work turn my car on and was going to put it on drive wen the shift handle was loose and i dint know what it was until i took the hole middle compartment off and saw that the cable linkage was connected to the handle, so i looked at the next thing, under the car and fount out that that the shift linkage disconnected from the tranny. So now every time i put the car on park the shift linkage comes off and i have to get under the car to put it back in place to be able to drive, thats getting anoying to do all the time so can i get help with my problem is there a kinda of clip to hold the shift linkage? or something cuz i think my car dont have the clip on,

Re: linkage probrem

doesn't sound like a stock setup. the only ones i've seen are held together with a bolt, or pops on with a ball and socket.

Re: linkage probrem

It does look like its held by a bolt but it has this plastic trim that is part of the linkage and i think it has to clip in the the metal thing sticking out but for some reason it dont clip, it just stays on until it come off again, were in the point im getting tired of going under the car to clip it on again. it sucks!!!!!

Re: linkage probrem

There's a plastic button that slips over the pin, when you put the cable on the plastic part it should snap. These things wear out over time. Fortunatly they are readily available at the dealerships for about $3 dollars, a new one will be very hard to clip, be patient you won't have to replace it for a looong time.

I see your here in Houston. If the nearest dealer to you doesn't have it in stock then try West Point Buick 281-493-2000 they have the second largest parts wharehouse in Texas for all GM parts.
