why No 87 700R4 s/s from probuilt

Was hoping dana or someone could tell me why there is a hd 87 trans kit but no street/strip version.I`m assuming I should get the 88 & up kit but not exactly sure.Lost 3rd gear last week so it`s time for a rebuild.

Re: why No 87 700R4 s/s from probuilt

Most 1987's that I have torn down use the early style valve body (they are the early 1987's), which does not work very well with the 700-2-3 Performance Shift kit. The late 1987's come with the second design valve body which is fine. I cannot tell you why it does not work, but me and a couple other builders have had the same complaint here years ago, using early style valve bodys with the later. The problem never happened with the 1982-86's, or 1988 & up, just the 1987. When I do an 1987 unit that has the early style valve body, and I am going to use the 700-2-3, I change it to a late style valve body and with a late style separator plate. The TransGo Shift kit works well in the 1987's that are going to be for HD use.

Thanks for the replies.Based on my mods would you suggest the street strip or do you think the hd version would be sufficiant?I`m really thinking the street strip cause I`m planning on a 125 shot.

If you want to go with the Street/Strip build kit, lets find out if you have the early or late valve body. If you have the early valve body, I can supply you the late one with a predrilled matching separator plate. Do you have the transmission apart now?

Think I`ve decided to just save a little longer and get the street/strip trans shipped already built.Just to make sure it`s done correctly,by probuilt.May be a couple months but it`ll be worth it I think.was thinking a 2400-2600 stall as well.

Hey dana,I tried to call probuilt today but I guess I get off work to late to call cali after work.I`m just about to order my trans from yall, within the next ten days or so.I`m assuming you would recomend the street/strip over the HD trans.I doubt i`m making enough power to hurt either one,but I am planning on some more upgrades. The most being 125 shot with HSR or edelbrock base and slp runners, and better headers.Hopefully dyno dons 1 3/4" if I can get them w/o the air and emissions tubes.Anyway I`ll get whichever one you recomend.I need a stall speed suggestion based on my mods minus the 2.73 rear.I`ll be having 3.42 put in as well. Will the edge converter be ok on N2O.Thank tou very much.BTW,how long should it take to ship to MS and whats the shipping charges.I didnt notice them on the site.also any chance of a deal on the converter/trans combo or coupon for a fellow thirdgen.org member?
