700r4 rebuild specs
700r4 rebuild specs
Mainly directed at Dana who I have asked in PM but I need to do an attachment so.... Anyone that can contribute please do...
I am rebuilding a late model 1991 700r4 My reverse drum clutch clearances are .035 at best IF I PUSH down on the pressure plate and push the feeler guage in. I know this is tighter than spec. Will this be OK? I have a .500 boost valve, 296 reverse, Vette servo,BW high energy clutches,Transgo 2&3 will be set automatic,BW 29 element sprag etc.
I replaced the forward pistons Circled in blue with molded rubber and steel replacement pistons. On the piston I've numbered 2 what holds the springs in seat? You can see how the aluminum one has the lower guides molded in. However the steel one is smooth and curved in this area.
On the plate picture how many of these holes should I drill and are they properly sized for performance?
Sorry for the noobish questions.

Re: 700r4 rebuild specs
Follow the instructions on separator plate hole sizes. Install the aluminum plugs very carefully. The picture is not right. On 700R4's, use the aluminum pistons in the input drum. I never see the forward piston crack on 700R4's, only 4L60E's. If you use the steel molded rubber forward piston, you will need a bottom spring retainer off of a 4L60E. Call me with any questions if you want. 909 7951876. Dana
