Coincidence or Stupid Question?

This may be one of the stupidest questions you’ve all read but here goes nonetheless. I purchased an ‘87 IROC automatic in December with a little over 90,000 miles. The previous two owners were in the same family and it appears to have been well maintained and all original but it sat for the better part of a year without being driven. The car is not a daily driver and I’ve put about 250 or so miles on it. I had the transmission fluid changed at the local Chevrolet dealership in January and the service tech said everything appeared fine. I drove the car Friday and it shifted and ran perfectly. Well, Saturday I’m waxing it in the garage and my neighbor comes over and wants to look under the hood. The next thing I know he’s slamming the hood down with such force the whole car is shaking and he says “Sorry, about that.” This evening I took the car out and it didn’t want to shift out of first and when it did, it shifted extremely hard. It also now lurches hard when you put it into drive from park. Never any transmission issues before this. My question is could have my idiot neighbor slamming the hood down with such force somehow caused a problem with the throttle valve cable system or something else which would cause this to happen, or is it likely a coincidence and I have bigger transmission issues? Thanks for your input.

Or he could have been messing with stuff around under there. Check and make sure the TV cable is still attached and properly set.

Re: Coincidence or Stupid Question?

The cable was completely off and all is well again!!! Shifting and going into gear just fine. Not sure if he did it or if it was just a coincidence, but needless to say I've learned my lesson when it comes to people touching my car. Thanks EvilCartman!

Envy or just messing around with stuff being an overall idiot. Either way the result was the same. You live and learn, I'll definitely be more careful now. Just thankfully it was an easy fix like you guys said.
