bad tranny problems 700R4

Car: 199 pontiac firebird formula
Engine: 5.0 tpi
Transmission: 700R4
bad tranny problems 700R4

I have a 1991 formula 5.0 tpi and i just drove back to california and on the way i lost 3rd and 4th gear out of nowhere... not sure what's wrong... clutch plates? something electrical? or do i need a new one... any input would be greatly appreciated.. THANK YOU!!!1

Hopefully it helps, apparently its the "#1 cause of losing 3rd and 4th" so to speak.

The loss of the 3-4 clutches is the most common problem with these units. If the transmission has low miles, you could possibly just replace the 3-4 clutch pack, if not the transmission will need to be gone through. If you want to save the most money, and you are mechanically inclined, you could build the transmission yourself. I have very complete kits for these, build books and DVD for the 700R4.

Yeah i heard that from the mechanics shop in town... but he wants 1000-1500 for the job... i JUST CAN'T AFFORD IT!!! I am pretty mechanically inclined i have worked in a few mechanics shops... how much would a kit be???
