Trans Fluid

Ok first this im not about a 3rd gen its about my daily driver/winter car. Its an auto trans with about 130K and 19 yrs on it i checked the fluid and i doubt its ever been changed. I remebered i few auto teachers talk about changing the fluid on on a trans that didnt receive regular changes did more harm then good. Something about the detergent knocking all the yrs of dirt off and basicly blowing the trans. I think my best bet is to change it and change it again a few weeks later. Im open to suggestions thanks in advance

Re: Trans Fluid

Get the fluid exchange rather than the fluid drain/fill. Gets ALL the old stuff out.

As for the debate about not changing old fluid....I can see the theory for not changing it. But personally I think changing the fluid can save a transmission that would otherwise be on the way out.

Ultimately fluid is a lubricant. And 20 year old fluid just isn't going to lubricate as well as fresh stuff. I would imagine the new fluid would help with cooling compared to the molasses that's in there right now.
