Will 4th gen gears work in a 1988 10 bolt?

I am getting a zexel posi unit from an ls1 that has 3.42's on it. Can I use these gears or do I need to put my old gears on the new posi unit? Will my old gears even fit on the zexel posi unit?

Yes, if you have a 3 series carrier and the it will work with LS unit. All 10-bolt gears are 7.500/625 dia for both 3rd & 4th gen cars. On a side note: make sure axle spline is correct with that LS if that is being changed.

An '88 10-bolt will most likely have 26-spline axles in it, while the 4th gen posi unit will definitely have 28-spline axles. They are not compatible. You'll need to get 28-spline axles for a 90-92 thirdgen 10-bolt as well.

Yes the gears will fit on the posi-unit, but the axles are your bigger problem.
