B&M mega shifter 2ft cable or 5 ft

Hey there just wanted to know why do people switch the 5 ft cable that comes with the shifter for the 2ft cable. My install hasn't gone smooth i keep adjusting and either my shifter will not go into first gear after adjustments it will go into first but not park and back and fourth after many adjustments.

5ft cable in my car.

Do you have the cable in the correct hole in the tranny shift arm? To my knowledge, none of the aftermarket shifters will work with the stock linkage arm on the transmission. You should be using the front hole in the supplied lever on the shifter.
