I just finished putting a new intake manifold carb and distribuator on my 84 firebird it's a 305 with a 700r4 tranny ne way I got it all up and running find but when I drove it yesterday it won't shift out of 2nd gear I also put a B&M Mega shifter in it. I adjusted the TV cable but it didn't change a thing any suggestions did I miss something in the swap or shifter install the car had a cc quadrajet is there something I didn't reconnect ne help would be great.

Did 1st,2nd,3rd,4th work before?
Was the TV cable changed for a different one or is it the same?

When the shifter is in park, is the trans. in park?
When the shifter is in rev, is the car operationally in reverse?
When the shifter is in neutral, is the car operationally in neutral?

I assume you're putting the shifter in OD.. Is there any chance that when you put it in neutral that you then get 3rd gear or even 4th?

 

All gears worked fine before I did this work and yes park is park rev is rev and neutral is neutral. Tv cable is the same. the carb I put on is a holley 600 double pumper. I tryed it in OD and by shifting it into 3rd would not work either way. It said in the carb manual that I might need a kickdown bracket but the TV cable hooked up on this carb the same as it did on the orginal so I didn't think I needed it. thanks for the reply hope you can help me.

 

seems like its a simple kickdown adjustment.

if all was working fine before you modified it.

when they say you need a special bracket they usuall mean it.

but do the t.v adjustment again and you should be fine
