Overdrive Problem

I have done a search but nothing completely answers my question. I have a 92RS with stock 305 TBI and 700R4. The problem is it wont stay in Overdrive. No matter what speed the car is going,it will only stay in overdrive if going up a slight grade or under mild acceleration. As soon as you back off the gas or the road levels out it slips back into third and the RPM's increase. If you pull the gear selector from OD back into third there is no change so I know its in third. With Gas rapidly approaching $5 a gallon I would like to keep the RPM's down. The fluid and filter are both new.Any help would greatly be appreciated.

did you try a factory reset of the throttle valve cable? Is all your brackets and geometry stock?

Re: Overdrive Problem

The car is completely stock . Not modified in any way. Just like the factory built it.

Re: Overdrive Problem

I've got an 83 Z28 with the same problem. No garuntees but when i bought it the old guy i bought it from told me that it had that problem once before. He said he took it to a guy he knew who cleaned all the ports in the tranny and it ran perfect up until about a month until he sold it to me. Might be a factory mishap or just a rare occurence but my plans are to find a guy to clean the ports of my tranny out and see if i cant get it fixed, I suggest the same to you (worse case cenario, atleast the ports are clean)
