700r4 front seal?

i have a leak in the front of my trans...i think it's the front pump seal. it's definitely not the pan...just changed the filter and gasket and i can see it's coming from above the pan and dripping down.

does anybody make a front seal that's better than the stock one? any one brand better than the other? anything i can do to prevent future leaks? i've heard that this is somewhat of a problem with the 700r4's.

No, one seal is the same as the other unless it is a cheap import. My front seal lasted 20yrs so what your opinion of longer seal life??

Re: 700r4 front seal?

well i had my trans rebuilt about 3 or 4 years ago and all the seals were replaced. i just don't want to gave to replace the front seal that often so i was just wondering. also, i know a guy with an 83 T/A with the 700r4 who's had to replace his front seal 3 times already and it still leaks. just wanted to know if there was a fix or a better brand of seal.

Re: 700r4 front seal?

who rebuilt your trans? was the torque converter replaced at the time? was a new bushing put into the pump. was the pump updated? usually if the front seal is leaking it is a problem with alignment of the torque converter with the pump, the neck of the torque converter, or the pump bushing is worn.

Re: 700r4 front seal?

a local guy did it for me....someone i found out about through a neighbor. as far as i know everything was replaced and all new seals were put in. i think i'll just ask around for good tranny guy in the area and take it there. i just want to get the d@mn thing fixed, otherwise i'll just worry about it. thanks for the input guys!
