lock up converter in a glide

i just picked up a build powerglide from a friend of mine but i dont have a converter for it. i have the vigilantie that was on my 700r4 but it is a lock up converter. would i be able to use that one or would it destroy the converter. i would rather find this out now so i could sell the vigilantie that i have now and get another one. its a 3400 stall and has less than 1000 miles on it. i did a search but i couldnt really find the answer i was looking for.

Re: lock up converter in a glide

I'm not sure on the spline count of the 700R4 converters. Does the PG have a factory course spline input shaft or a fine spline turbo shaft? Usually you get a glide converter with glide splines or turbo splines (TH350/TH400)

Re: lock up converter in a glide

sorry i forgot to mention that it has the fine spline shaft( its from a th350). my converter from the 700r4 slides right on and fully seats with no problem. also i can pull the input shaft out of the stator shaft pretty easily. is this normal for a glide with the th350 input shaft. i dont really know alot about glides. thanks alot for the help.

Yes it's normal that you can pull the input shaft out. It's not a TH350 shaft. It's a PG shaft with turbo splines. PG and TH350 parts are not interchangeable.

Powerglide input shafts have 17 splines
Turbo spline shafts are 30 splines
84-97 700E4/4L60E have 30 splines
Pre 84 700R4 have 27 splines

So do all the V6 700R4s, IIRC.

It should work but just won't lock up.
