Which Six Speed?
I've got a 1990 Trans Am getting a 550 hp 408 and a 9 inch rear. I'm wondering which t-56 to use. I've heard that the ones from the 98 and up Camaro's and Firebird's are the strongest. Will this be able to handle this power and will I be able to run a 150 shot of giggle gas with this transmission? I'm not planning on hitting the track every day but I do plan on going once in a while just to play around, for the most part this car is my street toy.

The 98-02 has a different bellhousing (won't bolt to a standard sbc) and slave cylnder style.
94-97 bolts right up and I am pretty sure are the same strength.
You can upgrade the internals to the ones from the Viper to make the T56 even stronger.

Re: Which Six Speed?
I forgot to mention my engine I'm building is a Gen III iron block so the 98-02 LS1 style will bolt right up to my engine. That's my fault for not mentioning that.

Re: Which Six Speed?
The stock '98-'02 trans should hold up to the engine's power, but you'll be pushing it if you launch off the line with the nitrous.

Re: Which Six Speed?
I've been slowly tossing the idea of nitrous to the side anyway. Just to much hassle plus I won't really have any space to mount the bottle with the ideas I have. I'm putting a custom box in the back for 2 12's and on the hump over the gas tank is where the amp will be mounted. I think 550 horsepower is more than enough to have fun though, especially if I get an extra third member for the 9 inch with a spooled set of 5.11's for the strip.
