T-56 SWAP

Hey,

I have heard many things regarding changing the starter to the smaller starter from the 93-97 Camaro/Firebird when doing the T-56 swap. Could someone shed some light on this. Who has done the swap and did you change the starter?

Re: T-56 SWAP

I changed from the stock starter to the Summit mini starter when I did the swap. I had a hot-start issue with the stock one and I've never had it since.

Re: T-56 SWAP

same with me, kept the stock starter on but had a major hot start issue. Then went with a cheapie ebay mini starter that quit after about 4 months, and then went with a remaned LT1 starter.

So it's not necessary on your parts round-up list, but I'm very happy with the LT1 starter.

Re: T-56 SWAP

I didn't change anything and it drives fine sometimes it will die when I engage the clutch on the highway, and I have to pop start it again. I suppose someday I'll need to pick up a chip from an 89 corvette 6 speed car and see if that makes a difference.

Re: T-56 SWAP

I reused the stock starter that came with the 700r4. I had to grind a little off the nose of the starter and some from the bellhousing to get it to fit. I haven't had any hot start issuse. It works fine for me.

As for the PROM I just changed the flag from automatic to manual. Some say that doesn't actually do anything. It seems to make a little difference but was hard to tell since my car ran fine without any changes. Again some have better luck than other depending on the program.
